

Front and back inside gutters are partially cracked. Outermost board edges are also scuffed, fore-edge corners are rubbed. The board panels are lightly scuffed and soiled. The dust jacket is price-clipped but the front inside flap is marked with 30-70 and the back flap "About the Author and Artist" includes the reference to The Wonderful Farm. Back panel has small illustration of jumping child, not the list of Books by Ruth Krauss. Charmingly illustrated paper covered boards with teal cloth spine. First edition, first state state book in first state dust jacket. Very good minus book in very good minus dust jacket. "What would you say about eyebrows? Miss Krauss and the many children who made suggestions, revisions, additions (and subtractions) to this book say, Eyebrows are to go over eyes.".

This book was the winner of the 1st New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Book Award. The top spine of the dust jacket has been nicked off and there is some rubbing / creasing to the spine as well. The dust jacket is mostly clean and bright with some noticeable toning / sunning to the spine and rear cover, along with an inch long semi-closed tear to the top front spine joint. There is some beginning foxing and toning to the top rear cover of the book.

The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. This copy has the 1st state dust jacket with a price of $1.50. This copy has the teal cloth spine and dark brown lettering on the front cover along with the Gr-r-r-r on page 23 making it the 2nd issue of the 1st edition. This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. Illustrated by Maurice Sendak (illustrator).
